Every month, the Origin team publishes a monthly update to our token holders and the broader community. Welcome to the July 2022 edition. We are eager to hear feedback and suggestions from our community.
July has proven to be a pivotal month of growth for Origin Protocol. After several months of planning, we have successfully completed multiple upgrades and features designed to grant token holders an easier path to the benefits and voting power behind our two flagship products. With the launch of Origin Dollar Governance (OGV), we have positioned OGN as the value accrual token for Origin Story while providing Origin Dollar(OUSD) a dedicated voting mechanism that is currently rewarding OGV Stakers up to 135% vAPY.
OGV — In addition to launching OGV Staking, we began the initial OGV distribution to airdrop recipients and other eligible wallets on July 12th. We are very excited for OGV to continue making noise with future listings. So far, OGV is available on several exchanges, including Huobi, Gate.io, KuCoin, MEXC, and Bitrue. This initial response is highly encouraging as we continue to work toward making OGV accessible to all.
Token Burn — As a reminder, the snapshot for OGN holders to be eligible for the Origin Dollar Governance (OGV) airdrop occurred on July 06, 2022, at 08:00:02 AM UTC at Ethereum block height 15,087,759. If you were holding OGN in a self-custodial wallet during the snapshot, you will be able to get your OGV through the claim portal until the October 10th deadline. After the deadline, any unclaimed OGV will be burned to decrease the supply.
OGN Staking — Not only was July a historic month for OUSD and OGV, but we are also incredibly proud to have conducted a flawless launch of the newly upgraded OGN staking program. This is a significant milestone for our community, who unanimously voted to distribute 100% of the on-chain fees generated from our record-breaking NFT platform to OGN Stakers — Further signaling our commitment to decentralized governance.
Seasons — This new development makes OGN your key to earning ETH rewards. OGN staking will be organized into seasons with a pre-determined amount of days, where OGN holders can stake their OGN to collect Points. Points will determine the proportion of ETH and OGN rewards that a staker can claim at the end of each Season.
The yields that you receive from staking OGN come from the same on-chain revenue generated each time someone purchases an NFT through Origin Story. These transactions can occur through primary sales or the sales generated on our new secondary marketplace solution, Collections.
Collections — We’re happy to report that since launching Collections in June, we have seen a high level of demand from other projects interested in the obvious benefits that come with hosting their own marketplaces. What this means for OGN holders is that every new NFT project that uses Collections will be generating additional sources of revenue for the OGN staking program. Most recently, we had the privilege to welcome our newest partners at Chubbiverse, who launched their marketplace in late July.
As Origin Story grows, so will the staking rewards pool and opportunities for our token holders to benefit. Nearly a dozen projects have agreed to host their marketplaces with Collections, and we expect to launch the majority of these partner sites during Season 1 of OGN Staking.
OGN’s circulating supply is 503,876,454. The circulating supply number includes the tens of millions of OGN staked in our staking program, reducing the actual float further.
There are 28,687,221 OGN currently staked in our legacy staking program. The majority of these tokens are staked for a year. Additionally, there are over 9,000,000 OGN locked up in the new OGN Staking Program for Season 1. This is a very strong signal that OGN holders believe in the future of OGN. The Origin community continues to grow stronger. The string of product updates and announcements brought many new faces to our Discord and Telegram servers. We know that many of you have questions, so we recently hosted a Q&A session on Twitter Spaces to help you better understand these new features and upgrades.
Origin’s Creator-in-Residence, Jon Youshaei, hosted the Chubbiverse team and on Twitter Spaces to discuss the future of media and merchandise in a web3 landscape. If you were unable to attend, you can still check out the recording on Twitter.
Origin’s Spanish Community Lead, Moises Sosa, was recently invited to an AMA on Twitter Spaces with the CoinEx Spanish Community. CoinEx was one of the first exchanges to signal their support for July’s OGV airdrop to their customers. Moises was on hand to answer any questions about OUSD governance, staking OGV, and the triple-digit vAPYs offered to veOGV holders.
This AMA kicks off several in a series of regional and global Q&A sessions with centralized exchanges, DeFi platforms, and other communities of builders. We look forward to answering your questions and gathering feedback as we ramp up our public outreach and community-building efforts.
